Demon Arm Concept by Jackalopette Demon Arm Concept by Jackalopette
I'm trying my hardest to put some decent work together for my internship demo reel. This was done for some concept artist applications I'll be putting in.

I'm so nervous. I really hope to get an internship this summer...

I know this is like 3 years old... But damn... I'd love to see a full body concept.

Wow, this is superb. It looks like an organic metal infection consuming the guy. I love it.

It wouldn't happen to have been inspired by s-CRY-ed or the witchblade would it?

I'm taking my inspiration from Witchblade, Devil May Cry and H.R. Giger mostly. The idea is that it is a separate entity that slowly infects the host.

I can definitely see some elements of witchblade and Giger, not so much from devil may cry but that is quite similar to witchblade when looking at Nero's arm.

I've had a lot of people compare previous concepts of this arm to Nero's in DMC. :XD:

That's probably because alot of people are unfortunate enough to have never read or watched witchblade, oh how I pity them ;)

Nevertheless it is an awesome looking arm, though I don't think I'd want one.

Spreading like an infection, hmm? Sounds like the goop in "The Blob."

But a lovely piece of work it is in any case

I think you've got a solid entry there. Looks like if Resident Evil and Devil May Cry met at a Capcom convention and birthed an illegitimate child. Oddly enough, this is the concept for Capcom's next big game.

I certainly took a lot of inspiration from the gauntlet in Devil May Cry. I also was inspired by H. R. Giger and some random tattoo artist I came across one day :)

You can definitely see the gauntlet now that you mention it. I'm glad you decided not to go with the glowing fingers thing they did, made him too angelic. The H. R. Giger is pretty prevalent in the twisting and turning, making the motionless oddly dynamic. How long did this take you? What did you use?

The original idea for this was that a demon would take its form as a jewel or an eye. A potential host would pick it up, and it would embed itself into the palm. After a while, the demon's influence would grow like an infection and eventually take over the entire body.

I started this as a pencil sketch a while ago. That part took me about an hour, maybe less. I scanned it into photoshop and played around with a couple painting techniques I wanted to try. That took me a couple hours... probably a little longer than I intended to take on it!

Ah, my god you put me to shame, sir. The concept is definitely in the vein of DMC, I like the infection spreading aspect, too. It opens up a lot of character development/motivation for a dramatic story arch. It's a good addition to the portfolio if you can present it right.

I've only played the first DMC, but I really like the style of the characters.
